My Process

Many clients come to me feeling unsure — unsure where to start, what’s possible, or how complex the process might be.

My role is to guide you through this in a clear, structured and supportive way, helping you understand your options and make confident decisions at each step.

You don’t need to have everything figured out at the beginning — that’s what the process is for.

Step 1 — Understanding the Problem

Every project starts with listening.

We begin by talking through:

  • What you want to achieve

  • What’s not working now

  • Your site or existing building

  • Budget, timing and any known constraints

This early stage is about gaining a shared understanding of the problem before jumping to solutions.

Step 2 — Defining the Brief

From these conversations, we develop a clear project brief.

This step brings structure and focus, setting out:

  • Priorities and non-negotiables

  • Functional and spatial requirements

  • Budget and programme expectations

A well-defined brief creates a strong foundation for decision-making and keeps the project aligned as it progresses.

Step 3 — Exploring Options

With a clear brief in place, we explore possible design responses.

This stage is about testing ideas, understanding trade-offs, and exploring different ways your project could be resolved — always with an eye on feasibility, cost and compliance.

I help you understand the implications of each option, so decisions are informed rather than overwhelming.

Step 4 — Making Confident Decisions

As options are refined, we work together to confirm the most appropriate direction.

My role here is to:

  • Clearly explain choices and consequences

  • Provide professional advice grounded in experience

  • Help you move forward with confidence

This ensures the project progresses with clarity and intent.

Step 5 — Developing and Delivering the Solution

Once the direction is agreed, the design is developed, documented and progressed through approvals and construction (as required).

Throughout this phase, I provide:

  • Clear communication

  • Practical problem-solving

  • Ongoing support to help keep the project on track

The focus is always on delivering the most appropriate, efficient and well-resolved solution for you.

Working Together

Good outcomes come from:

  • Properly understanding the problem

  • A clear and agreed brief

  • Thoughtful exploration of options

  • Confidence and experience in overseeing the delivery of the building

If this sounds like the way you’d like to work, I’d love to hear from you.
